The dissertation focuses on the study of business risks in the hotel industry and their connection to the strategic planning of hotel enterprises.

The hotel industry constitutes one of the most significant pillars of the Greek economy, with a substantial contribution to GDP and investment. At the same time, the industry operates in a particularly complex risk environment, shaped by factors such as seasonality, dependence on human capital, geopoliƟcal turbulence, the climate crisis and rapid technological change. Despite the strategic importance of the sector, scientifically grounded risk management at the level of strategic planning remains largely inadequate. 

The dissertation places risk at the core of strategic planning and develops tools both for risk assessment and for the formulation of risk management strategies, while consistently taking into account the specific characteristics of hotel businesses, such as star classification, geographical locaƟon, and size. To this end, the research combines a systematic literature review with primary quantitative field research conducted in hotel establishments throughout Greece. 

In this way, the dissertation aspires to bridge the gap between academic research and business practice, with regard to risk management within the framework of 
strategic planning.
