The Department of Tourism of the Ionian University, in the context of training and optimal preparation of the students towards the new challenges and requirements of the increasingly competitive environment, in which tourism businesses operate both at a domestic and international level, organizes distance lectures with the participation of guest speakers from the tourism sector.
Purpose
The main purpose of the Ionian Dtour Webinars is twofold: at first, they seek to enrich the knowledge of the students of the Department of Tourism. Secondly, they seek to prepare the students for the high demands of the labour market, in order to reach professional success.
The speeches and lectures will focus on and analyse contemporary and important issues concerning tourism professions and the requirements for a successful professional career in the Tourism sector.
In particular, the scheduled speeches may cover topics such as:
- Planning of business activities in tourism enterprises
- Financing of tourism enterprises
- Customer relationship management
- organisation and administration of hotel units
- marketing of tourism goods and services
- marketing of tourism destinations
- tourism planning
- design and composition of tourism packages
- travel planning
- planning and execution of mass transportation
- coaching of travel groups
- e-tourism
- information systems in tourism enterprises
- multidisciplinary approach to tourism
Guest speakers:
Guest speakers, who will share their career experience, come from both the academia and the industry and are distinguished researchers, academics and professionals in the Tourism sector. Through the lectures/speeches, they will offer in-depth knowledge and understanding regarding the mechanisms and factors governing the multidimensional and constantly evolving field of tourism industry. Guest speakers may include:
- Executives of private tourism units and businesses
- Executives of the wider public sector (e.g. ministries, GNTO)
- Professionals and experts in the field of tourism marketing
- Executives of sectoral and collective bodies and organisations of tourism
- Consultants of development companies and study offices in the wider field of tourism
- Academics and researchers in the science of tourism
Update on the implementation of the programme
The exact date and time, the method of implementation - participation (remotely) in every scheduled speech/lecture, the guest speaker, and the topic of the speech/lecture will be announced on the website of the Department, at the Events.
Duration
The duration of each webinar varies from 40 minutes (minimum) to 90 minutes (maximum). The overall duration of each webinar depends also on the duration of the active conversation to be developed between the guest speaker and the attending students (questions posed to the speaker by the students).
Participation
Ionian Dtour Webinars will be hosted through ZOOM platform.
Students will receive the zoom link and the rest information of the webinar (topic, speaker, starting time) in their personal institutional account (email). Participating students are kindly requested to enter the platform at least 10 minutes before the beginning of the webinar.
Standards of conduct during Webinars
Students will be able to ask questions at specific points of the webinar (at the guest speaker's disposal) or at the end of the webinar, in order a fruitful and constructive conversation between the participating students and the guest speakers to be developed.
