Starting from the 2026–2027 academic year, the Department of Tourism of the School of Economic Sciences at the Ionian University is introducing three new elective courses on Artificial Intelligence into its Undergraduate Study Programme, responding to rapid technological developments and the evolving needs of the contemporary tourism sector.

The Department of Tourism of the School of Economic Sciences of the Ionian University announces the conferral of the title of Doctor upon Mr. Ilias Kalis, the first doctoral graduate in the history of the Department.

The Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) Evaluation and Accreditation Council has accredited the Postgraduate Study Programme 'Digital Technologies in Hospitality Management and Tourism' of the Department of Informatics of the Ionian University as fully compliant to the Standards for Quality Accreditation of Postgraduate Study Programmes of the HAHE and to the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) for study level 7 of the National and European Qualifications Framework.

The International Conference "Towards Resilient Destinations: Integrating Nature, Culture and Tourism for Sustainable Futures (NEST)", co-organised by the Ionian Environment Foundation (IEF) and the Ionian University, was successfully held in a hybrid format on April 23–24, 2026, at the historic Ionian Academy in Corfu.

Participation of faculty members of the Ionian University as Guest Editors in the Special Issue entitled “Intelligent and Multimodal Human–Computer Interaction: From Brain–Computer Interfaces to Assistive Systems,” published in the international scientific journal Multimodal Technologies and Interaction (ISSN 2414-4088, Impact Factor 2.4).

The international conference Towards Resilient Destinations: Integrating Nature, Culture and Tourism for Sustainable Futures (NEST) will take place in hybrid format on April 23–24, 2026 at the Ionian Academy, Corfu, Greece, and will also be available online.

On Monday, 16 March 2026, the Department of Tourism of the Ionian University welcomed 90 students from Potamos Primary School and the 4th Experimental Primary School of Corfu “Athenagoreio”, accompanied by their teachers.

The Ionian University Research Day was successfully held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the exhibition space of the Corfu Port Authority, as an open celebration of scientific knowledge, creativity, and innovation, aiming to showcase the rich and multidimensional research output of the University and strengthen its connection with society.
