The thesis examines the reorientation of cultural capital through the use of digital technologies, which aims at the development of cultural tourism and its subsequent economic contribution to economic prosperity at the level of regional units.
Specifically, the thesis examines how the renewal of traditional local cultural and tourist forms, through new digital activities of added value, can potentially contribute to the further development of the Peloponnese Region. In this context, the thesis studies the digital capabilities of the Peloponnese region, the dynamics of existing digital spaces, and the possible production of new digital cultural heritage platforms, which will strengthen the relationship of the cultural tourist with the local community, so that there is sustainability and development in the cultural and tourism sector while simultaneously mitigating the adverse consequences of tourism in local areas.
The contribution of the thesis in the field of cultural tourism is to analyze the dynamics of the existing digital environment of the tourism industry, to identify and record new market and consumer trends, which are constantly changing due to digital criticism and influences. In addition, to highlight the ways through which the Peloponnese Region can become a digital tourist destination, with multiple benefit both for the managers of the digital scheme and for the local society, through the increase in tourist flows and productivity.
