The present dissertation initially seeks to develop the identity and qualitative characteristics of military tourism as an emerging tourism product within the field of cultural tourism, as it was introduced in 2021 by the Ministries of Defence, Culture, and Tourism. Focusing specifi-cally on the case of military tourism in the Regional Unit of Epirus, the study investigates its potential contribution to the sustainable and environmentally sound development of the areas in which it is implemented, as well as to their overall resilience. At the same time, the dissertation examines the further promotion of Greece’s cultural image as an instrument of soft power at the international level, through the presentation and dissemination of Greek military history. To this end, the study draws on the theory of systemic geopolitical analysis, given that military tourism possesses potentials to act also as a geopolitical component ca-pable of exerting broader influence.
