Σύντομη Περιγραφή:

The course intends to familiarize students with the conceptual framework, foundational knowledge, typologies, and definitions of Tourism and Hospitality. The primary objective of the course is to provide an introductory understanding of management, development, and planning within the tourist sector, as well as the components that constitute the tourism system.

After successfully completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • To recognize the basic concepts of the tourism and hospitality industry.
  • Understand the operation and components of the tourist system.
  • Understand the tourism development standards and management procedures of the tourist site.
  • Evaluate the tourism market and policy issues.
  • Recognize the effects of tourism.
  • Learn about the various forms of tourism.
  • Analyze statistics that predict the future of tourism.
Περιεχόμενο (Syllabus):

Week 1 - Tourism, concepts, recreation, free time, tourist-traveler, conceptual-functional framework, historical development, tourist currents, tourism in Greece.

Week 2 - Tourism economics, Tourism industry structure, tourism organizations, contribution to GDP, tourism demand, characteristics, tourism demand forecast, tourism supply, tourism and economic development,

Week 3 - Tourism policy, public and tourism policy, tourism planning, stages of drawing up a tourism development plan, tourism development standards, tourism management officials.

Week 4 - Theoretical approaches to motivation and human needs, psychoanalytical approach, sociological approach, humanitarian approach. attraction factors, consumer behavior in tourism, tourism marketing.

Week 5 - Tourism destination, attractions, attractions, travel momentum, growth conditions, package tourism, life cycle stages, tourism destination management, competition, destination strategy and marketing, marketing planning, marketing mix in tourism.

Week 6 - Hospitality and accommodation, hotels and accommodation, short-term letting, catering, event tourism, creative industry.

Week 7 - Tourism suppliers, intermediaries, intermediate bodies and tourism system, tour operators, agents, wholesalers.

Week 8 - Transport, air transport, sea transport, road and rail transport, water transport, cruise, transport management.

Week 9 - Operations management, organization of tourism enterprises, chains, concentrations, quality management, information management in tourism, information and communication technology in tourism, digital entrepreneurship.

Week 10 - Impacts of tourism, tourism destination cycle, economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts of tourism, income, employment, prices.

Week 11 - Sustainable tourism development, sustainable development, climate change. action and sustainability, alternative policies, carrying capacity.

Week 12 - Forms of tourism, types, mass tourism, thematic tourism, alternative tourism, special tourist facilities.

Week 13 - Tourism research. The future of Tourism.

Μέθοδοι αξιολόγησης/βαθμολόγησης:

Final exam comprising:

- Short answer queries

- Multiple choice

- Comparative analysis of the elements of theory and case study

Assignment (3 topics of development and documentation in tourism entrepreneurship, tourism contracts, and cultural monument protection).                                                     

Students are informed of the evaluation criteria at the outset of the course.
